Training and Sports Injury
Sports injuries are often the result of sudden trauma, repetitive strain, or biomechanical imbalance. Many non-surgical sports injuries respond exceptionally well to chiropractic care—especially when treatment is guided by a thorough understanding of movement, posture, and joint mechanics.
At Advanced Chiropractic, we provide targeted care for athletes and active individuals in Brunswick, GA, with the goal of restoring function, improving performance, and supporting safe return to activity.
Athletes and place unique demands on their bodies. Whether injuries occur during competition, training, or everyday physical activity, proper recovery requires more than rest alone. Chiropractic care plays an important role in addressing joint restrictions, muscular imbalance, and movement dysfunction that commonly follow sports injuries.
Many professional and collegiate athletic programs integrate chiropractic care alongside physical therapy because restoring proper biomechanics helps the body heal more efficiently and perform at a higher level.
The Role of Biomechanics in Athletic Performance
Biomechanics is the study of how the musculoskeletal system functions during movement. Ideal posture and joint alignment allow the body to move with maximum strength, flexibility, speed, and coordination. When alignment is compromised—whether from injury, overuse, or poor mechanics—performance declines and the risk of re-injury increases.
Even small deviations from optimal posture can lead to:
Reduced mobility
Loss of strength and flexibility
Decreased agility and power
Compensatory movement patterns
Ongoing pain or dysfunction
Correcting these imbalances helps injured tissues heal and allows athletes to benefit fully from training and rehabilitation.
Postural Performance and Injury Recovery
The body can only perform at the level its structure allows. Injuries that are not fully corrected may lead to long-term movement compensation, reduced performance, or recurring pain. Effective sports injury care focuses on restoring alignment in the spine and extremities—including the shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, and other joints affected by trauma.
A structured approach allows injured tissues to heal while progressively restoring strength, flexibility, and coordination. Recovery timelines vary depending on injury severity and history, but systematic care improves outcomes and reduces setbacks.
Comprehensive Sports Injury Support
Muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints respond well to specific, targeted therapies when properly applied. Sports injury care may include a combination of chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapy, mobility training, and rehabilitative exercises tailored to the athlete’s sport and activity demands.
This comprehensive approach supports healing, improves movement quality, and helps athletes return to activity as safely and efficiently as possible.
Experience-Driven, Athlete-Focused Care
Treating sports injuries requires an understanding of how different activities place stress on the body. Each sport presents unique physical demands, and recovery plans should reflect those demands. At Advanced Chiropractic, care is individualized—never one-size-fits-all—and coordinated with rehabilitation goals to help reduce the risk of future injury.

Dr. Halverson’s Background and Approach in Brunswick, GA
Dr. Ren Halverson’s approach to sports injury care is shaped by a lifetime of firsthand experience with injury, recovery,
and performance. From a young age, he sustained multiple traumatic injuries related to sports and physical activity,
including injuries to the wrist, arm, shoulder, knee, and lower back. These experiences gave him a deep understanding of how injuries affect the body over time—and how incomplete healing can limit long-term performance.
Chiropractic care was first introduced to Dr. Halverson in his early twenties following a serious fall that resulted in a lower back injury. After receiving chiropractic treatment, he experienced a level of mobility, strength, and flexibility he had never previously known—even after years of high-level athletic training. That transformation inspired him to pursue chiropractic as a profession and focus on helping others recover from injury and restore function.
Before entering full-time practice, Dr. Halverson competed nationally in martial arts and later treated athletes across a wide range of disciplines. Over the course of his career, he has worked with professional and elite athletes, including members of national teams, professional football and basketball organizations, endurance athletes, swimmers, golfers, and combat sport competitors, as well as countless recreational athletes and “weekend warriors.”
Dr. Halverson was also invited to serve on the workers’ compensation medical staff at large General Motors facilities in Georgia, where he collaborated closely with medical doctors, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. This experience provided extensive exposure to complex musculoskeletal injuries, repetitive strain conditions, and structured rehabilitation protocols—particularly involving the neck, upper extremities, knees, and lower back.
Throughout his career, Dr. Halverson has emphasized the importance of sport-specific and activity-specific rehabilitation. While many injuries share common patterns, successful recovery requires understanding the unique physical demands of each athlete or patient. His approach considers posture, biomechanics, and movement requirements necessary for a safe and effective return to activity.
He also values collaboration, encouraging trainers and rehabilitation professionals to work together throughout the recovery process. This team-based model—focused on correction, conditioning, and prevention—has remained a guiding principle in the care philosophy at Advanced Chiropractic.
